Sexual Frustration in Pakistani Society
Summary
Pakistani media have recently reported that two minor girls were kidnapped, raped, and murdered. An 8-year-old girl named Muntaha from Sargodha, Punjab, was sexually assaulted and brutally murdered; her throat was slit by the alleged perpetrator. In another case, a 3-year-old girl in Karachi’s Landhi area was sexually assaulted before being killed. Separately, a 14-year-old boy was reportedly buried alive by suspects who had raped him, allegedly after he complained to one suspect’s older brother.
These are only three of several rape cases reported across the country within a month, in which young female victims were sexually assaulted and then brutally murdered. In some cases, family members have killed their daughters or sisters over alleged relationships or sexual activity with boyfriends. Some female TikTokers have also reportedly been murdered by relatives who disapproved of their videos. Although I do not usually address domestic or personal incidents in Pakistan, focusing instead on political issues, these cases deeply disturbed me. For that reason, I decided to speak out against such crimes committed in a country often described as “a fortress of Islam.”
